Getting Started
How do I clean a recording?
Tap "Clean a recording" on the dashboard, then choose Import (a Voice Memo, MP3, M4A, WAV or CAF from Files / iCloud) or Record (in-app mic). Podcast Cleaner transcribes your audio and flags the ums, uhs, stutters and dead-air pauses. You review every suggested cut, toggle the ones you want, then tap Render to export.
What does "review every cut" mean?
Nothing is removed automatically. Every suggested cut appears highlighted inside a transcript — for example "so I was, um, thinking." Toggle any individual cut on or off, or turn a whole category (like all "uh"s or all long pauses) on or off at once. A live summary shows how many cuts are selected and how much shorter your episode will be before you commit.
How does the A/B compare work?
On the result screen you can play the original and the cleaned version, so you can hear the difference before you save or share. The stats card shows how much time you saved and how many fillers were removed.
Filler Words & Silence
Which filler words does it detect?
Um, uh, uhm, erm, ah, hmm and stutters/repeats, plus long dead-air pauses, are detected on every clean. With Premium Aggressive mode, it also targets discourse fillers like "like" and "you know." Every one of these is still shown for you to review — you decide which to cut.
The AI missed a filler / flagged a word I want to keep.
Detection is AI-assisted and word-level, but not perfect. That's exactly why the review step exists: turn off any cut you want to keep, and if a filler wasn't flagged you can trim it manually. The final edit is always the one you confirm before rendering.
Does it work on music or singing?
Podcast Cleaner is built for spoken-word audio — monologue, interviews, narration. It is not designed for music or singing, and results on those can be poor.
Files, Export & Re-Renders
What audio formats are supported?
You can import MP3, M4A, WAV and CAF files, or record in the app. Free exports are MP3; Premium adds lossless WAV and FLAC export, plus transcript export as TXT or SRT.
Are re-renders really free?
Yes. Once a recording has been analyzed, you can reopen it, re-toggle cuts, and export again as many times as you like — no new analysis, no credits, and no hour meter. Re-rendering never counts against your usage.
Do I get a transcript?
Every clean includes a free transcript you can read in the app. Exporting the transcript as a TXT or SRT file is a Premium feature.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes, for analysis and rendering. Your audio is uploaded to our processing service to be transcribed and scanned for fillers and pauses, then results are sent back to your device where you review the cuts. Reviewing an already-analyzed job works offline because the transcript and cut list are saved on your phone; tapping Render (or re-rendering after toggling cuts) submits a quick job to our servers — free, with no new analysis.
Free vs Premium
What's free vs Premium?
Free: 2 cleaning jobs, input files up to 10 minutes, the first 5 minutes of each file exported, MP3 export — with full review of every cut and free re-renders. Premium: up to 12 hours of cleaning per month, files up to 2 hours, full-length exports, lossless WAV/FLAC, transcript export (TXT/SRT), aggressive mode, and unlimited history.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — the Premium Annual plan ($49.99/year) includes a 7-day free trial. You'll only be charged at the end of the trial. Cancel anytime in your Apple ID subscription settings before the trial ends and you won't be charged.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open Settings inside the App and tap "Restore Purchases". This re-applies your active subscription if you've previously purchased one on this Apple ID.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the iOS Settings app, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find Podcast Cleaner and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Privacy
Where does my audio go?
To clean a recording, your audio is uploaded over an encrypted connection to our processing service, transcribed, and scanned for fillers and pauses — then the results come back to your device. Your original upload is deleted as soon as the job finishes (with a short grace window), and cleaned results/transcripts are deleted after 7 days. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
Can I delete my uploads?
Yes. Open Settings inside the App and tap "Delete my uploads" to purge your associated media from our servers on demand, without waiting for the automatic 7-day deletion. Your audio is never used to train AI and is never used for voice cloning.
What permissions does the app need?
Microphone (only when you tap Record), and Notifications (optional, to alert you when a longer job finishes processing). Importing a file uses the standard iOS file picker — the App only sees the file you choose.
